Owen Sound Downtown Area
Photo Tour
Owen Sound had a hustling port in the early 1900s. Like many other Southern Georgian Bay ports the boom time ended with the opening of the Welland Canal. Many buildings were built before the canal days. Captains often built large homes in their main port.

Owen Sound is now a regional business and tourist town. There is something for everyone with many unique shops, restaurants and large malls.

Owen Sound has two names, Scenic City or Owen Sound Means Business.

Owen Sound has many interesting features. Built in the valley of the Niagara Escarpment with two rivers entering Owen Sound Bay. The Bruce trail runs along the west side and there are three water falls and beaches in the area.

The tour starts at the 10 St. bridge, then we walked south along the main street (2 ave east) before the stores opened. At 6 St. East just past the Y we turned east for 4 short blocks and crossed the Mill Dam. We turned north along 2 Ave west until the Library. At the Library we walked along the river back to 10 St.

Note:
The Sydenham river divides the city into an east and west side. The city is on 2 ave east. 10th St. is the main street running east and west. 10st is also highway 21 and 26
