Headline news: "Durham wins Communities in Bloom" "The town of Durham is now
considered one of Canada's most beautiful communities, at least in the eyes of judges from the
Communities In Bloom contest.""The murals throughout the town on what would otherwise be
boring walls were outstanding and demonstrated the commitment and co-operation of all the
community. In fact,....the judges specifically mentioned the town's murals as the point that put
Durham over the top in the competition." By Sean Meyer Saugeen City News October 7, 1997
"Durham Gets Top Honors In Beautification" "Last year Durham won the provincial contest and went on to represent Ontario at the nationals."...."Durham's murals also scored high on the judges list."...."The largest murals, created by artist Allen C. Hilgendorf, received particular mention." "It was noted the murals did a lot to cover barren walls." "The murals were a factor," the mayor said." By Kris Svela The Hanover Post, October 7, 1997 A note from the webmaster. This has a very good illusion. The first time my family and I stopped at the light in Durham and saw this mural we got in a discussion. Half of us thought a wood fence was on the outside of the picture and the other half thought it was painted in. We had to turn the corner and see.The fence was painted outside the mural. Our kids never forgot the name of the town and the corner. |
