The Rankin River system is a series of show lakes joined by a shallow river. The river from Boat Lake to Sauble River is a very shallow. It is possible to canoe the entire length but below the dam at Boat Lake is very rough. Midsummer the lower part is reduced to a trickle.
There is a good amount of Large and Small Mouth Bass. You can also expect to catch grass pike.
People do launch small aluminum boats from the Wiarton road.
