Mennonite Barn Building Photos

My ancestors settled in the Stratford area. Stories about stump removal and barn building have been passed down over the years. The Mennonites remind me of how my great grandfather must have lived.

The story is that the entire community would get together and build a barn in a day. The photos above show you how this was done.

My grandfather had to chose between a team of horses or oxen for a wedding present. He took the ox because they could pull out the stumps better.

Also, I have a great respect for parts of the Mennonite lifestyle because they don't over consumer resources.
