Georgian Bay Ontario Canada Circle Drive

This is the owner of personal opinion.

    Drive around Georgian Bay

We live in Owen Sound and drive parts of this tour every year. We consider this area one of the most interesting areas for eco tourism in Ontario. What you will see is high-grade farms to towns built on stones.

This tour can be done in one day but you will not really see the area. You must stop and get off the main highway. Your tour will take three days to two weeks.

The Tent Canal north of Barrie is the dividing line between the farmland of the south and the rock of the north. The Bruce Peninsula has it’s own stone landscape.

Note: Our tour is clockwise but if you go counterclockwise there is less of a lineup at the fiery.

    Midland to Collingwood
This is an area of good farms, beaches and tourist traps. We like Sainte Marie amoung-the-Hurons, Midland tour boat, Wassaga Beach, Wassaga Beach attractions, Collingwood Bluemountain slide ride.

    Collingwood to Owen Sound
Very scenic with Georgian Bay on the north and the ski hills on the south side of the road. You will find beaches just off the highway. There are no tourist traps but if you go late August there are apple orchard markets. You could go into the Beaver Valley up to Eugenia Falls. The view at the falls is gorgeous but most of the water is diverted for hydro. The waterfront towns in this area are interesting and worth a stop.

    Owen Sound to Wiarton
Very scenic dive along Georgian Bay. There are stone beaches, but the water is cold. You might see people scuba diving and the Bruce Caves are worth a stop. There is a side trip to Sauble Beach and yes it has tourist things to do.

    Wiarton to Tobermory
HWY 6 is boring. We recommend that you go up the back road to Lion’s Head. You could go for a scenic drive through Cape Croker, visit Greigs’s Caves and hike around Lion’s Head. The Grotto hike at Cyprus Lakes is one of the nicest hikes in Ontario. There is a shallow warm water beach across hwy 6. Tobermory reminds me of an east coast fishing village with glass bottom boat tours that are world famous. Here you will catch the MS Chi-Cheemaun fiery.

    Manitoulan Island to Sudbury
Scenic area that goes onto the rock. Sudbury was built on the rock and is unique. There are tourist traps, Science North and mine tours.

    Sudbury to the Trent Canal
This is a nice scenic drive on the rock (Precambrian Shield). There are few places to stop. Parry Sound has a couple tourist traps such as a boat tour and tower hill. At the Trent you can stop and view the locks.
