Drive From Toronto Ontario to Winnipeg, Basic Information

    Drive To Winnipeg

This is a general personal opinion of the site owner and is not influenced by any tourist organization.

We are going to assume you are flying in to Toronto, renting a car and staying in hotels or motels. We will be bypassing some interesting areas because of time and distance. This trip involves twenty-four hours of driving. For a Canadian that is a lot of driving!

We recommend that you spend extra time at Toronto, Bruce Peninsula or Midland area, Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay.

Note. We are not going to tell you how to get to a location or time to spend. This would take the fun out of your trip.

1: Visit Toronto, Toronto in the summer is like Orlando Florida. Rush hour is a pain.

2: Drive to Sudbury or North Bay You now have three options.
A: Take the Ferry at Tobermory, then go to Sudbury.
Things to do: Bruce Peninsula (get off the highway), Sudbury Science North, and Mine Tours
    B: Drive 69 to Sudbury.
Things to do: Midland Native Village and Boat Tour, Boat tour at Parry Sound, Wassaga Beach.
C: Drive 11 to North Bay, from here you can take #11 which is the northern rout to Thunder Bay, this is a longer easier drive than the southern rout.
Things to do: Bracebridge Boat Tour, Northern Forest, Train at Cochrane to James Bay

3: Sudbury to Sault Ste Marie
Things to do: The Sue is an industrial town with a nice riverfront. Agawa Canyon train tour is popular.
Have you paperwork in order if you plan on crossing the border at Sault Ste Marie. The border guards do stereotype and can be a real pain.

    4: Drive to Thunder Bay
Things to do: This is one of the more scenic areas in Canada. You will see hills, bush, and Lake Superior and the road has a lot of curves. Thunder Bay is a port city but has some nice features. Alpine Skiing, Local Gems and the Sleeping Giant are a few.

    5: Drive to Winnipeg
